so deep down, all our natural sex drives are for the opposite sex andcwe know it. but i still just dont get it. if animals can be that way, why not humans?? after all, you’re lesbian and pretty cool too.
Kinda glad you brought this to me and not someone else, as some people would have gotten angry. D: I fortunately am used to it since I grew up in the bible belt.
Well here’s the thing. Homosexuality may or may not be a sin, even according to the bible. There’s lots of evidence that says that homosexuality IS specifically mentioned and lots of evidence that says that it’s NOT.
You can really go back and forth on the idea a lot. For example, the verse “Thou shall not lie with a man as thou would a woman” could be a mistranslation. It could have meant “Though shall not treat a woman as thou would a man” which is the bible’s way of saying women are inferior, don’t treat them as equals. It doesn’t make me like the verse any better but there you have it.
Sodom and Gomorra is cited as being smited because of the homosexuality going on in the city of Gomorra. However, when you read the actual text, homosexuality was not the only thing happening. There was also rape, beastiality and lots of smexing before marriage, all things which God didn’t like. It seems to me its less “gay things were happening” as it was “lusty things were happening.” Again, not really proof homosexuality is the problem here.
Even on top of that, a lot of the old testament was struck down by the new testament. God went from being a cranky, vengeful God to allowing His son to take in all the sins for His children and therefore didn’t see the need to punish them for every little thing, so long as they pledged love, adoration and worship on the Holy Trinity. A lot of the philosophies and rules created in the Old Testament are directly contradicted and thrown out by the New Testament.
So whose to say if anything condemning homosexuality in the Old Testament is even valid?
It also needs to be mentioned that the original books of the bible have been heavily edited or some entirely thrown out or added in by the hands of men, which, as a Christian, I’m sure you agree is not a good thing. God’s word has been tainted by men who were in power at the time and may or may not have liked the things the Bible had to say. Some of the books may be complete works of fiction and some may be true that are completely missing.
And let’s not even go into the things the bible says (more often than it talks about homosexuality) are a-okay that we not only don’t adhere to today but that there are laws against some of it. I mean, slavery, stonings, the way you cut your hair, not touching women on their period, not mixing fabrics, not working on Sundays, etc etc etc.
The facts are, there are no facts when it comes to homosexuality and the bible. There is no commandment saying “thou shalt not pork another man in his buttocks.” There is a commandment saying “Thou shalt not kill.”
The reason you see homosexuality in animals is because homosexuality is 100% normal, natural and something that totally happens and isn’t a choice.
Oh believe me, if homosexuality was a choice I would be straight. I bit my nails over it a long time before I finally accepted that I liked girls. It’s easy to look at someone different from you and say they chose to be different. You know what’s not easy? Growing up and finding out that you seem to have no choice but to love the girlies or go the rest of your life single, unhappy and alone because according to mainstream society, you’re an abomination. That’s hard.
Animals get to be gay because they aren’t being controlled by an archaic set of rules which may or may not be saying what people think its saying. Not to diss your bible or your religion, but there’s been a lot of problems over the years and a lot of the message has been lost in translation and lost in overzealousness.
You probably don’t have a problem with homosexuality (except that you think you’re supposed to) because you’re a kind, caring individual who understands that if God didn’t want people like me to exist, I wouldn’t be here. And that the only thing we can know for a fact really are sins are the things that you do that can hurt others.
My homosexuality is hurting no one.
I am a lesbian. And I am pretty cool. And while I don’t believe in God, if you do, you have to know He made me that way.
