Look, comparing the human body to property is totally fair game since the U.S. government allows people to give parts of the body to others through organ donations, and even vampirism (assuming it’s consensual.) This is because our government and society has a dualistic mind frame. That means that the human body and the human consciousness are separate. In a sense, the mind/spirit/etc. or res cogitons owns as property the body or res extensia. The body, is merely a vessel for the mind. Therefore, it is fair in this country to compare a body to a piece of property like a house.
Next, the father made a contribution to the pregnancy, and in a sense, signed a contract with the mother. If the mother backs out on the contract, she should give fair recompense. Obviously, it would be hard to return the sperm, however, spermcenter.com tells us that artificial insemination costs $300-800. So I think if you’re going to argue for fairness, then everytime a woman has an abortion, the man should be paid back for his lost investment, about $300-800.
Okay so this post was originally about some bullshit comparison of abortion to the plight and struggle of blacks and Jews, because you know, removing a bundle of unfeeling cells from your uterus because you feel unfit to raise a child is the same as torturing, killing and enslaving entire groups of people because you’re an ass.
However, I want to focus specifically on this part of the argument just for the fact that this is the stupidest, most unfeeling argument against abortion I’ve ever heard.
Yes, certainly. Let’s look at the human body as our personal property and sex as a contractual agreement.
If this was a thing here’s some things you’d have to do to complete this idea.
- If I have sex with someone and they fail to properly put on a condom in such a way that I do not get pregnant, I can sue him for a breech in contractual sex in which I was supposed to not get pregnant due to negligence.
- If I engage in sex with a person without protection in hopes of getting pregnant I can sue the person if I do not get pregnant because according to our contract, I’m supposed to be pregnant and he did not adequately fulfill his agreement or supply an adequate “investment.”
- Egg donations typically pay $3,000 to $6,000 dollars per cycle of eggs donated. So if a man gets me pregnant, thus agreeing to a contract and I miscarry, is he liable for the $3,000-$6,000 worth of eggs I no longer have?
- Or is a barren person who discovers they can’t have children liable to person they’re trying to have kids with?
- An impotent person?
Not to mention the reason artificial insemination costs so much is because of the procedure, not the semen itself. People tend to only make $100 per sperm sample when donating sperm, so in the very least, the uterus owner is only liable for $100, not the $300-$800 being claimed.
Of course if a person carries the fetus for any amount of time, they fulfill their contract up until that point so the amount should be deducted for the amount of time they did carry the fetus.
But if we’re talking the cost of sperm vs the cost of eggs, eggs are considered far more valuable. So the monetary loss of a uterus having person who just had an abortion is far greater than the loss of the sperm having person.
Do you see? How ridiculous this idea gets?
But let’s face facts. You say my body is like a house? Fine. But if my guy friend comes over and leaves his jacket here and never comes back to claim it, I don’t have to pay him money for it if I decide to throw it out.
Sex is not a contractual agreement. Without a physical contract that is signed by both parties, it doesn’t even make sense at that point because anyone who knows anything about law knows that if someone comes to your house and offers to fix your bathroom at no charge, you are not liable for the costs.
So unless they paid for the sex… oh wait that’s illegal.
The truth is, when a person is inseminated and gets an abortion, the person who inseminates them is losing nothing they don’t already lose wanking off in the shower. Period. The way you phrase it, if a person masturbates they’re spurting out hundreds of dollars down the drain.
A dick in a vagina is not at all the same as a contract and an inseminated egg is not a person.
You also assume that all men want the babies that are being carried. It’s actually pretty common for men to pressure women into having abortions when the woman doesn’t know what she wants to do. Can you imagine how many abortions would be coerced or forced into knowing there’s a payload in it for the person that impregnated them?
If sex is a contract, why is it that the uterus owner would then be expected to carry the baby for nine months, not really an easy task and then do most of the work taking care of it according to the average societal viewpoint of pregnancy and child rearing?
God this idea that bodies are like houses and that the person who inseminated the uterus should be paid actually gets stupider the more I talk about it.
If sex is a contract, what else is a contract?
Is a kiss a contract to be in a relationship? Is a date a contract into marriage? Is a hug a contract into friendship?
Human interaction is not a contract. That’s ridiculous.
My body is not a house. My body is not a car. My body is not a possession, my body is me. I am my body. Anything growing in my body is me. Anything produced in and of my body’s cells is me and I’ll take it out and get rid of it if I want to. You know who doesn’t get a say in that? You.
And a person’s sperm inside my body is not theirs anymore than the blood on the tampon when I have my period. Fuck that. Once it leaves my body it’s not me. Once a fetus leaves my body and becomes a baby it’s not me, it’s a person and it has human rights. I’ll even go so far as to say when it could sustain life on its own outside my body and just hasn’t yet, it’s a person with rights.
Before that, it’s me. One and the same. One person, one fetus, never to be confused as the same thing.
This is all happening in my uterus and no one gets to decide what I do with my uterus but me.
The US Government allows people to donate organs, sperm, eggs, blood, etc because PEOPLE’S BODIES BELONG TO THEM AND THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT WITH THEM.
So back the fuck off.
